Gujarat has crossed 102% of its average monsoon rainfall, with heavy showers lashing several districts in the last 24 hours. The IMD has placed parts of the state under red alert and warned fishermen &ldquo;not to venture into the sea between 7 and 10 September due to rough conditions.&rdquo;
According to SEOC data, 139 talukas received significant rain till 6 am on September 7. Kaprada saw 10 inches, Poshina and Dharampur 6 inches each, while Radhanpur, Umargam, Bhachau, Lakhni, Talod and Palanpur received over 4 inches. Another 15 talukas, including Sanand, Botad and Patan, recorded 3 inches.
Rainfall distribution shows North Gujarat at 106.5%, East-Central 107.34%, South Gujarat 107.99%, Kutch at 99.17% and Saurashtra 91.29%. &ldquo;This marks yet another year in which Gujarat has achieved normal monsoon rainfall,&rdquo; said an IMD official.
Reservoirs are filling fast, 123 dams are on high alert, with Sardar Sarovar at 91.26% capacity. On September 7, massive water releases took place: Ukai discharged 22,000 cusecs, Damanganga 49,000, Wanakbori 2.87 lakh, Kadana 1.91 lakh, Dharoi 94,000 and Sardar Sarovar over 2.28 lakh cusecs.
In Ahmedabad, rising Sabarmati levels led to the closure of the&nbsp;Lower Promenade of Riverfront. &ldquo;As a precautionary step, 25 families from Parikshit Nagar were shifted to safer places. Citizens have been warned not to go near the riverbanks and remain alert as water levels rise,&rdquo; said an AMC official.
Authorities said the situation is under close watch with NDRF and SDRF teams deployed statewide.
