External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday departed for a week-long diplomatic tour of Europe, where he will engage in high-level meetings with leaders in France, the European Union, and Belgium. The visit is aimed at advancing bilateral partnerships and underlining India&rsquo;s uncompromising position on terrorism.
The trip comes shortly after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, and the minister is expected to convey India&rsquo;s resolute approach to cross-border terrorism during his discussions with European counterparts.
The first stop of the minister&rsquo;s itinerary is France. He will be in both Paris and Marseille for official engagements. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, &ldquo;The External Affairs Minister would travel to Paris and Marseille where he would be holding bilateral discussions with his counterpart Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean Noel Barrot.&rdquo;&nbsp;
In addition to official talks, Jaishankar will attend the first edition of the Mediterranean Raisina Dialogue, which is being hosted in Marseille.
Following his engagements in France, the minister will continue to Brussels, where he will participate in a strategic dialogue with European Union High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas. The foreign ministry remarked, &ldquo;India-European Union strategic partnership has strengthened over the years across diverse sectors and got a big boost with the first-ever visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India in February this year.&rdquo;
While in Brussels, Jaishankar will also hold meetings with senior figures from the European Commission and the European Parliament. His schedule includes engagements with think tanks and media representatives as well.
The final segment of Jaishankar&rsquo;s European visit will take place in Belgium. The External Affairs Ministry described the bilateral relationship as &ldquo;warm and friendly,&rdquo; with strong cooperation across a range of areas including commerce, green technology, pharmaceuticals, diamonds, and people-to-people connections.&nbsp;
The ministry noted, &ldquo;India and Belgium share warm and friendly relations along with a very robust economic partnership. Today, the collaboration between the two countries spans various domains like trade and investment, green energy, technology, pharmaceutical, diamond sector and strong people-to-people ties.&rdquo;
While in Belgium, Jaishankar is expected to hold comprehensive talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot. He will also meet senior Belgian officials and engage with members of the Indian diaspora.
