The resumption of air links between Kolkata and Guangzhou earlier this week was described by officials as a &ldquo;symbolic yet significant step&rdquo; in normalising people-to-people and economic engagement.

Analysts view the latest meeting as part of a broader confidence-building effort, with both sides seeking to prevent border incidents and manage disputes through dialogue rather than confrontation. However, no announcement was made on troop withdrawals or disengagement from remaining flashpoints.
While the situation on the ground remains sensitive, the agreement to continue structured dialogue reflects a willingness to prioritise stability. Officials have hinted that the next round of discussions could take place later this year, signalling that both nations are willing to institutionalise mechanisms to prevent escalation.
