Zakia Jafri, a survivor of the 2002 Gujarat riots and wife of late Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, has passed away at the age of 86 due to age-related ailments in Ahmedabad.
Ehsan Jafri was brutally killed along with 68 others during the 2002 Gujarat riots at Gulbarg Housing Society. Spanning more than 20 years, Jafri fought a long legal battle, alleging a larger conspiracy behind the riots and demanding action against top officials.
She challenged Supreme Court against the SIT&rsquo;s clean chit to then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and 64 others in the case.
Her son, Tanvir Jafri, stated that she was at her daughter's home in Ahmedabad, where she completed her morning routine and was interacting with family members. Suddenly, she started feeling uneasy, and a doctor was called in for medical assistance. Despite receiving medical attention, she was declared dead at around 11.30 am.
