<p class="whitespace-normal break-words">A joyous honeymoon journey has ended in tragedy for a newly married couple from Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district after their vehicle is believed to have plunged into the rain-swollen Teesta River in Sikkim on 29th May. The couple, Kaushalendra Pratap Singh (29) and Ankita Singh (26), who wed earlier this month, were amongst nine people who went missing following the accident that occurred whilst they were travelling back from Lachen to Lachung, officials confirmed on Tuesday.</p>
<h2 class="text-xl font-bold text-text-100 mt-1 -mb-0.5">Families Await News Amid Ongoing Search</h2>
<p class="whitespace-normal break-words">Speaking to the press, Kaushalendra's uncle, Dinesh Singh, described the family's anguish as they await any update from the authorities. Family members of the couple have travelled to Sikkim and have met with senior police officials, including DIG Akshay Sachdeva and the district SP, seeking updates on the search operation.</p>
<p class="whitespace-normal break-words">"Whilst some belongings were recovered from the hotel, there is still no clear evidence to confirm whether they drowned in the river. The family is shattered but still hoping for a miracle," Dinesh Singh stated.</p>
<p class="whitespace-normal break-words">The rugged terrain, coupled with the swollen and fast-moving waters of the Teesta River, continues to hamper rescue and search efforts. Authorities have maintained that they are deploying all available resources, but the extreme weather conditions remain a significant obstacle.</p>
<p class="whitespace-normal break-words">As the search continues, the families of the missing cling to hope, refusing to give up in the face of overwhelming uncertainty.</p>
<h2 class="text-xl font-bold text-text-100 mt-1 -mb-0.5">Details of the Tragic Journey</h2>
<p class="whitespace-normal break-words">The groom, Kaushalendra, is the nephew of BJP leader Ummed Singh, whilst Ankita is the daughter of Vijay Singh Dubbu from Dhangadh Sarai Chivlaha village. The couple had embarked on their honeymoon journey on 25th May, travelling by train to Sikkim and reaching Mangan district by 26th May. However, as they were returning from their trip to Lachen, the vehicle carrying them, along with seven other tourists and the driver, reportedly lost control during a period of heavy rainfall and plunged into the Teesta River.</p>
<p class="whitespace-normal break-words">Amongst the missing are two more tourists from Uttar Pradesh, two from Tripura, and four from Odisha, besides the local driver. The incident has triggered an extensive search operation involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), but so far, no survivors or bodies have been recovered.</p>
