Two individuals died and two others were injured when a car plunged into the Kalisindh river from a dilapidated culvert in Madhya Pradesh&rsquo;s Dewas district on Sunday. The accident occurred along the Indore-Betul National Highway, a key route in the state.
According to police, the vehicle was travelling from Madurai to Indore. The driver reportedly lost control while trying to navigate a narrow section of the century-old culvert, where an oncoming truck left little room to manoeuvre. With no railings or warning signs, the car veered off and fell into the river.
Out of four passengers, two died on the spot&mdash;identified as OP (40) from Amritsar and Anand Raj (40) from Indore, both seated in the front. The two survivors&mdash;Ilaiyaraaja from Jaipur and Uchchtevan from Chandigarh&mdash;were pulled out by local villagers, who broke the car&rsquo;s windows to rescue them. Ilaiyaraaja remains in critical condition at RR Hospital in Bagli town.
All four were chefs originally from Madurai and were en route to drop off Anand Raj in Indore. Residents claim this is the fourth accident at the same culvert in two months, raising concerns about poor road safety infrastructure.
In a separate incident the same day, two masons from Sahishpura, Wasik Ali (32) and Waqar Khan, were critically injured when their motorcycle collided with a bus on NH-46 in Shivpuri district. They were headed to Kolaras for work when the accident occurred. Both are receiving treatment at the district hospital.
