&nbsp;A tragic lightning strike in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Prayagraj district claimed the lives of a family of four late Saturday night. The incident took place in Sonvarsha village under Bara police station jurisdiction, where a powerful bolt of lightning struck the thatched roof of a mud house during a severe thunderstorm around midnight.
The impact set the house ablaze instantly while the family was asleep. The victims&mdash;a 35-year-old man, his 32-year-old wife, and their daughters aged 8 and 5&mdash;were burned alive before neighbours could intervene. The fire spread so rapidly that no rescue was possible.
Post-mortem reports confirmed that the family died from burns and suffocation. The village is in mourning, and residents are outraged by the lack of effective communication despite a thunderstorm alert issued by the Meteorological Department.
The family lived below the poverty line in a fragile kuchcha house. Local authorities, including the SDM of Karachhana and the Tehsildar, visited the site and announced ₹4 lakh in compensation.
In response, the district administration has launched awareness drives and started creating safer shelters for vulnerable rural families. More heavy rain and lightning are forecast in Prayagraj over the next 24 hours.
