An Apache AH-64E attack helicopter of the Indian Air Force (IAF) made an emergency landing on Friday in the Nangalpur area of Punjab&rsquo;s Pathankot district following a suspected technical issue.
The helicopter was on a routine training sortie when the glitch was detected. Both the pilot and co-pilot landed the aircraft safely. No injuries or damage to civilian property were reported.
Military personnel promptly secured the site, and a technical team has been dispatched to inspect the helicopter. Neither the IAF nor local authorities have released an official statement on the nature of the malfunction, citing operational security.
This marks the second such incident involving an Apache helicopter this month. On June 6, another Apache made a precautionary landing in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Saharanpur due to similar concerns. That flight also ended safely.
The IAF inducted the advanced AH-64E Apaches in 2019 to replace the aging Soviet-era Mi-25/35 gunships. Based at the 125 Helicopter Squadron in Pathankot, these helicopters are vital for high-altitude operations and have been deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since the 2020 border standoff with China.
Emergency landings are a standard safety measure to prevent accidents when technical anomalies are detected mid-flight.
