In a major accident early Sunday morning, a tourist bus overturned on the Chandigarh-Manali Highway near Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, leaving 31 passengers injured. The incident occurred around 4 am as the bus was en route to Kasol (Kullu-Manali).
Among the injured, two passengers are in critical condition and have been referred to Nerchowk Medical College. Six others sustained serious injuries, while the remaining passengers were discharged after receiving primary treatment.
According to preliminary investigations, the accident was caused by over-speeding. Mandi Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sagar Chandra stated, &ldquo;The bus appears to have overturned due to the driver&rsquo;s excessive speed. A detailed investigation has been launched, and the driver is being questioned.&rdquo;
A forensic team has been called in to determine the exact cause of the accident. The police are also questioning the bus owner and operator to assess the vehicle&rsquo;s technical condition and maintenance history.
As soon as the accident was reported, local authorities and police swung into action. Rescue teams reached the spot quickly and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Local residents also played a significant role in assisting rescue operations.
Traffic was disrupted on the highway, but was soon brought under control by the administration.
This incident once again raises concerns over road safety in hilly regions and the negligence of drivers. Accidents during the tourist season continue to be a worrying trend in Himachal Pradesh.
Police have urged travellers to be cautious while journeying through the hills and encouraged passengers to ensure drivers follow speed limits.
