An 82-year-old woman is in the ICU, under observation for possible brain bleeds, after falling at Delhi&rsquo;s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The woman, identified as Raj Pasricha, reportedly waited over an hour for a pre-booked wheelchair from Air India but was forced to walk with assistance when none arrived. She collapsed near the airline&rsquo;s premium economy counter.
Her granddaughter, Parul Kanwar, alleged that &ldquo;not one person stepped in to help&rdquo; and that first aid was not provided. &ldquo;Expectation from Air India staff was for the family member to go to the MI (medical inspection) room and get medical aid,&rdquo; she wrote in a post on X.
After finally receiving a wheelchair, Ms Pasricha was boarded on the flight with a bleeding lip and injuries to her head and nose. Air India&rsquo;s crew provided ice packs and alerted Bengaluru airport&rsquo;s medical team, where she received stitches. Ms Kanwar later wrote from the ICU that her grandmother&rsquo;s &ldquo;left side is losing strength&rdquo; and that the family is facing &ldquo;a long road ahead of pain and recovery.&rdquo;
Air India responded on X, stating it was &ldquo;concerned to note&rdquo; the incident and wished Ms Pasricha a &ldquo;speedy recovery.&rdquo; The airline added that it was &ldquo;actively working on the concern.&rdquo;
The family has filed complaints with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Air India and is awaiting further action.
