Air India Crash: One More Body Recovered from Tail Wreckage
 Flight AI-171 crash toll climbs to 270 as forensic teams race against time in Ahmedabad
Rescue teams on Saturday retrieved another body from the wreckage of the Air India AI-171 flight that crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The remains were discovered within the aircraft&rsquo;s tail section, which is still lodged atop a doctors&rsquo; hostel in the Meghani Nagar area.
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed just 33 seconds after take-off, slamming into a densely populated residential neighbourhood. The impact caused widespread destruction, claiming the lives of at least 270 individuals &mdash; including passengers and residents on the ground.
The ill-fated aircraft was carrying 242 people, comprising 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese, one Canadian passenger, and 12 crew members. In a tragic twist of fate, only one passenger &mdash; a British national identified as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, seated in 11A &mdash; is known to have survived the crash.
Specialised teams from the National Security Guard (NSG) have been deployed to support ongoing relief and recovery operations. While NSG personnel are on the ground aiding central and state response units, officials clarified that they are not involved in the formal investigation.
NSG commandos were seen inspecting the rooftop where the tail of the aircraft remains wedged. The presence of elite forces has helped secure the site as forensic experts and investigators comb through debris for evidence.
A multi-agency probe is currently underway involving the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, and local police. Investigators from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also made an inspection visit to the site on Friday.
Meanwhile, authorities have announced an expedited process for DNA identification of the victims. With dozens of bodies charred or dismembered in the impact, forensic teams are working round the clock to complete identification within the next three days.
As rescue and identification efforts continue, the tragedy has cast a dark shadow over the city. The loss of so many lives in such a brief span has sent ripples through communities in both India and the United Kingdom, where several families await news of their loved ones.
