A controversy has emerged in Ahmedabad&rsquo;s Danapeeth area as the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Central Zone town planning department began the demolition of two illegal floors of the Salman Avenue building, located opposite the main office of the civic body. The building, which has six floors in total, is primarily residential, with four floors currently occupied and one floor vacant.
The demolition of these two floors has sparked a protest from local politicians and residents. Two corporators from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party surrounded Assistant Municipal Commissioner Milan Shah in an attempt to halt the demolition on Friday. The situation escalated as the police were deployed to ensure the continuation of the demolition work.
According to reports, over 100 police personnel, including superintendent of police, two sub-inspectors, and additional officers, were stationed at the site to maintain law and order. Despite opposition, the demolition work continued under tight police supervision. 
Shah, remained at the spot and addressed the pressure from the corporators. He mentioned that a presentation had been requested for the deputy municipal commissioner, but since no court decision had been made yet, the demolition would proceed.
During the demolition process, a woman&rsquo;s health deteriorated, and she was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Congress MLA Imran Khedawala also weighed in on the issue, raising concerns about the selective targeting of Salman Avenue. Khedawala pointed out that while illegal constructions are widespread across Ahmedabad, only this particular building was being singled out for demolition. He questioned why similar actions were not being taken at other locations where illegal constructions were reported.
The demolition has highlighted ongoing tensions regarding illegal constructions in Ahmedabad, as both political figures and local residents continue to voice their concerns over the perceived inconsistencies in enforcement.
