Global family offices are most likely to increase their investment exposure to India and China over the next 12 months, with India significantly outperforming China, according to the '2025 Global Family Office' report by UBS.
More than a quarter (28 per cent) of family offices plan to increase their exposure to India, while nearly a fifth (18 per cent) intend to raise their exposure to China, the report notes&mdash;clearly indicating robust macroeconomic indicators and strong domestic growth in India.
"Middle Eastern family offices were the most likely to increase exposure to India," the report stated, with European family offices ranking next.
The report is based on the views of 317 UBS family office clients. The average net worth of the participating families was $2.7 billion, with their family offices managing $1.1 billion each.
&ldquo;Some of the most notable changes based on the latest survey include a shift towards developed market equities, with family offices seeking to access structural growth opportunities,&rdquo; the report highlighted.
They are also increasing investments in private debt, possibly in search of higher yields, and some have indicated plans to expand allocations in developed market fixed income, likely for diversification purposes.
&ldquo;Family offices are most likely to have defined investment strategies in healthcare and/or medicine, as well as electrification. They are also keen to understand the potential of a range of emerging technologies, identifying opportunities in both public and private markets,&rdquo; the report added.
Operationally, family offices are most likely to use generative artificial intelligence (AI) for financial reporting, data visualisation, and text analysis over the next five years.
Another report last month revealed that in the Asia-Pacific region, the number of single-family offices has surged to 2,290&mdash;a 28 per cent increase since 2019. The region is expected to outpace North America by 2030, with a projected 40 per cent growth reaching 3,200 offices. India is said to be undergoing a similar evolution.
A growing number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals and startup founders in India are turning to institutional family office structures to manage wealth and succession planning, according to a white paper by Lighthouse Canton, a global investment institution.
A recent industry report stated that the number of family offices in India has grown nearly sevenfold over the past six years, rising from 45 in 2018 to nearly 300 in 2024. The country&rsquo;s booming startup ecosystem and generational wealth transfer are driving this growth, with Indian families increasingly seeking institutional-grade investment strategies and governance frameworks.
