Sections of Grand Canyon National Park remain closed as two large wildfires&mdash;the White Sage Fire and Dragon Bravo Fire&mdash;continue to spread, prompting the evacuation of hundreds and impacting air quality in the region.
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon has been shut down indefinitely to aid firefighting operations and protect public safety, according to park officials. Smoke from the fires is expected to be visible from the South Rim, and air quality may deteriorate depending on wind conditions and fire behaviour.
The White Sage Fire, which began after a thunderstorm on July 10, has grown rapidly to over 19,000 acres (77 sq km) with zero per cent containment. Officials evacuated around 500 visitors from the North Rim, while park employees and residents remain sheltered in place.
The nearby Dragon Bravo Fire, active since July 4, has burned approximately 5,000 acres (20 sq km). Fire behaviour intensified due to hot, dry, and windy weather, complicating containment efforts.
Authorities continue to monitor both fires closely. Updates are being shared through InciWeb, the interagency wildfire information platform.
Visitors are advised to check for updates and avoid affected areas as emergency crews work to contain the blazes.
