The southwest monsoon has picked up pace across Gujarat, with Gandhinagar district recording 51.42% of its average seasonal rainfall as of July 29. The region witnessed 1.50 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Gandhinagar and Kalol each logging 1 mm, while Dahegam remained dry during this period.
Comparing year-on-year data, Gandhinagar shows a substantial improvement. By July 28, 2024, only 30.66% of the average rainfall had been recorded, but this year the figure has jumped by over 20%, with the city itself receiving nearly 480 mm (19 inches) so far.
As of 6 a.m. on Saturday, the district had registered 42.59% rainfall, which increased significantly due to continuous showers over two days. Among Gandhinagar&rsquo;s talukas, Dahegam has received the highest cumulative rainfall at 61%, while Kalol is at the lower end with 40%.
Heavy Rainfall in South and Central Gujarat&nbsp;
While rainfall eased slightly after Sunday&rsquo;s intense showers, South and Central Gujarat witnessed significant downpours. The State Emergency Operations Centre reported Umarpada taluka in Surat district as the wettest area in the past 24 hours, recording 125 mm (4.92 inches).
In Chhota Udepur district, Chhota Udepur taluka received 82 mm, Bodeli 76 mm, and Jetpur Pavi 57 mm. Jambughoda taluka in Panchmahal recorded 65 mm.

Rainfall between 30 mm and 50 mm was observed across districts such as Navsari, Dang, Vadodara, Bharuch, Anand, Valsad, Narmada, and Ahmedabad. Light rainfall (1 mm to 20 mm) was reported across Saurashtra, Kutch, and North Gujarat, including talukas like Mandal, Visavadar, Junagadh, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Mehsana, and Surendranagar.
Overall, 145 talukas received rain on Monday, though only 34 saw more than 25 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts continued scattered showers, especially across South Gujarat and the tribal belt, over the next few days.
