<p data-start="141" data-end="347"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Multiple cloudbursts struck the Karsog division in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh overnight, leaving one person dead and at least nine others missing, according to officials on Tuesday.</span></p>
<p data-start="349" data-end="587"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The cloudbursts triggered sudden flash floods, sweeping away several houses and causing widespread destruction. Authorities confirmed that 41 people were rescued by the district administration and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).</span></p>
<p data-start="589" data-end="811"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">In Kuklah village, at least 10 houses and a bridge were washed away. In addition, the 16-MW Patikari Hydro-Electric Power Project, located on the Bakhli Khad &mdash; a tributary of the Beas river &mdash; was also completely destroyed.</span></p>
<p data-start="813" data-end="1047"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Due to excessive water inflow, approximately 1.5 lakh cusecs of water had to be released from the Pandoh Dam. The situation escalated rapidly as intense rainfall in the upper catchment of the Beas caused a sharp surge in water levels.</span></p>
<p data-start="1049" data-end="1289"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Authorities have issued strict warnings to locals and tourists to avoid riverbanks, given the dangerous conditions. The Larji Hydro Electric Project in Kullu, which has a capacity of 126 MW, also witnessed an unusually high water discharge.</span></p>
<p data-start="1291" data-end="1440"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">As a precaution, Mandi District Magistrate Apoorv Devgan ordered the closure of all schools and educational institutions in the district for Tuesday.</span></p>
<p data-start="1442" data-end="1701"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Meanwhile, relentless rain continues to batter the state, leading to further incidents of flash floods. On Monday, a five-storey building collapsed in a Shimla suburb; fortunately, no casualties were reported as residents had vacated the structure beforehand.</span></p>
<p data-start="1703" data-end="2064" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">In the last 10 days, Himachal Pradesh has recorded losses amounting to ₹75.69 crore due to heavy rainfall. Between June 20 and June 30, the state has reported 23 fatalities from flash floods, cloudbursts, and drowning incidents. Additionally, 259 roads remain closed, 614 power transformers are non-operational, and 144 water supply schemes have been disrupted.</span></p>
