Actor Suniel Shetty has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights after discovering that several websites and social media platforms have been using his photographs without permission to promote their businesses.
In an interim plea, Shetty requested the court to direct these platforms to remove all unauthorized images and restrain them from further misuse.&nbsp;
The matter was heard on Friday by Justice Arif Doctor, who reserved the order after listening to arguments presented by Shetty&rsquo;s counsel, Senior Advocate Birendra Saraf.
Saraf informed the court that fake images of Shetty and his grandchild, Evaraah, have been circulating online, with some websites and pages using them for commercial advertising.&nbsp;
He highlighted that a&nbsp;real estate firm and an online gambling platform were among those exploiting Shetty&rsquo;s likeness to market their services, even though the actor had no affiliation with them.
The plea contends that Suniel Shetty has the exclusive right to control the commercial use of his name, image, and persona, and that any unauthorized exploitation constitutes a violation of his privacy and reputation.
&ldquo;Using my image for promotional purposes without consent misleads the public and harms the goodwill I&rsquo;ve built over decades in the industry,&rdquo; the actor stated in his petition.
Evaraah, referenced in the plea, is the daughter of Athiya Shetty and cricketer KL Rahul.&nbsp;
The court&rsquo;s decision on the matter is expected to be announced in the coming days.
