London&rsquo;s Leicester Square turned into a celebration of Bollywood nostalgia on Thursday as Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiled a bronze statue of their iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge characters, Raj and Simran, marking 30 years of the cult classic. The sculpture captures the timeless pose that defined a generation&rsquo;s idea of romance and now stands proudly in the famed Scenes in the Square trail.
Shah Rukh Khan, dressed in a sharp black suit, and Kajol, elegant in a powder-blue saree, drew cheers from fans as they revealed the statue. Sharing the moment online, Shah Rukh wrote, &ldquo;Thrilled to unveil the bronze statue of Raj &amp; Simran, celebrating 30 years of DDLJ.&rdquo; He added that the team was &ldquo;incredibly delighted that DDLJ is the first Indian film to be honoured with a statue in the trail.&rdquo;
The tribute is significant not only for Indian cinema but also for London, where large portions of DDLJ were filmed. Leicester Square itself is where Raj and Simran first unknowingly cross paths in the film an early moment that would go on to define Bollywood&rsquo;s most enduring love story. Other UK locations featured in the movie include Hyde Park, King&rsquo;s Cross and Tower Bridge.
Released in October 1995, DDLJ became a cultural touchstone, shaping modern Bollywood romance and achieving record-breaking box-office success. Its legacy continues in global pop culture, inspiring a Broadway-style musical and now a permanent spot in London&rsquo;s cinematic sculpture trail. &ldquo;Come meet Raj &amp; Simran when you are in London,&rdquo; Shah Rukh wrote, inviting fans to relive the magic.
