Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has opened up about the knife attack at his Mumbai residence earlier this year, describing the terrifying incident that almost cost him his life and unfolded in front of his young sons, Taimur and Jeh.
In an interview with Esquire India, Saif recalled the night of January 16, when an intruder broke into his home past midnight. 
&ldquo;There&rsquo;s this crazy sense of how lucky one is because (the knife attack) was damn close. To walk away relatively unscathed is nothing short of miraculous,&rdquo; he said.
The actor, who was left injured and on the floor, described experiencing a surreal moment as if time had slowed down. 
&ldquo;It could have been the adrenaline, but I remember thinking life has been colourful and I&rsquo;ve been privileged&hellip; not just in terms of money. So many people have more. But I&rsquo;ve lived in that rarefied atmosphere of Winchester, travelled with loved ones, the wine, my wife, my children&hellip;&rdquo; Saif shared.
Reports confirmed that Saif bravely fought off the intruder with his bare hands, sustaining a serious injury near his thoracic spine. 
Doctors later removed a 2.5-inch blade fragment at Lilavati Hospital and revealed that a slightly deeper wound could have caused paralysis.
The attacker, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, was arrested soon after. 
Police said he had broken into the home intending to rob the actor and assaulted both Saif and a staff member using a wooden weapon and a blade.
On the work front, Saif Ali Khan was last seen in Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins alongside Jaideep Ahlawat, an action thriller directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal that premiered on Netflix.&nbsp;
He will next appear in Priyadarshan&rsquo;s Haiwan, reuniting with Akshay Kumar.
