Rishab Shetty&rsquo;s Kantara Chapter 1 continues to dominate the global box office as it wraps up its second week in theatres. The Kannada period drama has crossed an impressive ₹717.50 crore worldwide, establishing itself among the top 20 highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
The makers announced the milestone on social media, celebrating the film&rsquo;s phenomenal run both in India and overseas. Domestically, Kantara Chapter 1 has collected ₹485.4 crore by the end of its second Thursday and is now inching toward the ₹500 crore mark in India. Despite minor weekday drops, collections are expected to rise again with the upcoming Diwali weekend.
The film has also surpassed Sunny Deol&rsquo;s Gadar 2 (₹691.08 crore) in lifetime earnings, along with other major blockbusters such as Salman Khan&rsquo;s Sultan, SS Rajamouli&rsquo;s Baahubali, Rajinikanth&rsquo;s Jailer, and Vijay&rsquo;s Leo. Kantara Chapter 1 is now closing in on Chhaava (₹808 crore) and may soon challenge the coveted ₹1000 crore milestone.
Directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 serves as a prequel to the 2022 cult hit Kantara, which earned ₹400 crore worldwide. The story is set a thousand years before the events of the original, featuring Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in pivotal roles.
