Rishab Shetty&rsquo;s Kantara Chapter 1 continues its unstoppable run at the worldwide box office, crossing the ₹450 crore mark within its first week of release. The Kannada period epic, serving as a prequel to Kantara, has emerged as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters of the year.
On Wednesday, the film collected ₹25 crore net on its seventh day, taking its domestic total to ₹316 crore net (₹379 crore gross). The Hindi-dubbed version has crossed ₹100 crore, while the Kannada version follows closely with ₹99 crore. The Telugu version has earned over ₹60 crore, and both Malayalam and Tamil versions have added more than ₹20 crore each cementing Kantara Chapter 1 as a true pan-India success story.
Overseas, the film has earned more than $8 million (₹67 crore), taking its global total to ₹451 crore. With strong weekend momentum expected, the film is poised to breach the ₹500 crore mark in its second week.
On Thursday, Kantara Chapter 1 also surpassed the lifetime collections of major hits like Brahmastra: Part One (₹431 crore) and 3 Idiots (₹450 crore), moving up the list of India&rsquo;s highest-grossing films.
Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the film stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in key roles. Set a thousand years before the original Kantara, the prequel explores the origins of the legend. A third instalment, Kantara Chapter 2, has already been confirmed.
