Filming has officially begun on HBO&rsquo;s highly anticipated Harry Potter television series. The production is underway at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, the same iconic location where the original films were shot. Fans were treated to the first official image this July, revealing newcomer Dominic McLaughlin as an 11-year-old Harry Potter, complete with his signature round glasses and lightning-bolt scar.
The casting of the core trio is now confirmed. Dominic McLaughlin stars as Harry Potter, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. These young actors were selected from more than 32,000 auditions across the UK and Ireland. The series is set to retell the beloved books in a season-by-season format, with each of J.K. Rowling&rsquo;s seven novels adapted into its own dedicated season.
The ensemble cast features several acclaimed performers. John Lithgow takes on the role of Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu portrays Severus Snape, Janet McTeer plays Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost steps into the role of Rubeus Hagrid. The project is being led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod. With a reported production budget of over &pound;1 billion, the series boasts newly constructed Hogwarts sets, dedicated on-site schooling for the child actors, and top-tier visual effects.
J.K. Rowling will serve as an Executive Producer for the series, working alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, Francesca Gardiner, Mark Mylod, and original Harry Potter film producer David Heyman.
Filming is expected to continue through spring 2026, with HBO and HBO Max eyeing an early 2027 premiere. With the blend of a new cast, high production value, and faithfulness to the original books, fans around the world are already counting down to the return of the Wizarding World.
