Hollywood star Tom Hardy revealed that a crossover between his character Venom and Tom Holland&rsquo;s Spider-Man almost happened but ultimately fell apart due to studio politics.
Appearing on The Discourse Podcast, Hardy confirmed that the crossover &ldquo;got as close as I could possibly imagine getting.&rdquo; He expressed regret that the collaboration never came to fruition, adding, &ldquo;I would have loved to have done [it] because that just means so much fun.&rdquo;
Hardy did not provide specific reasons for the failure of the crossover but hinted at studio politics being a key factor. When asked if it was indeed studio interference that stopped the project, he simply said, &ldquo;for all the reasons that you explained ultimately in there.&rdquo;
The actor, who plays the iconic anti-hero Venom, further emphasized that his primary motivation for wanting the crossover was for the kids. &ldquo;As much as adults love superhero films... I think I&rsquo;m constantly reminded by children how important these characters are,&rdquo; Hardy said. &ldquo;They don&rsquo;t know why their favourite characters aren&rsquo;t in films together.&rdquo;
Venom and Spider-Man share a complicated relationship within the Marvel universe, with Venom emerging from a symbiote that once bonded with Peter Parker, the alter ego of Spider-Man.
Meanwhile, fans of Spider-Man are in for a treat as Tom Holland and Zendaya&rsquo;s fourth Spider-Man movie, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is set to begin filming this summer. The movie, which will be released on July 31, 2026, follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter Parker erased his identity from the world.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed the start of production at CinemaCon, though plot details remain under wraps. Holland, who is currently filming Christopher Nolan&rsquo;s The Odyssey, sent a video message teasing the fresh start for his character. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s all I can say,&rdquo; Holland joked, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m not going to do that today,&rdquo; in reference to his known tendency of spoiling his own films.
The new film will see the return of Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon, with Sadie Sink joining the cast in an undisclosed role. Rumors suggest she might play Jean Grey from the X-Men universe, though this has not been confirmed.
Cretton hinted at new emotional and creative directions for the film, promising fans an exciting, fresh experience. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event,&rdquo; he said.
