Thousands of fans across Assam flocked to theatres on Friday for the release of Roi Roi Binale, the final film of cultural icon Zubeen Garg, 42 days after his death in Singapore.&nbsp;
Garg&rsquo;s family and team fulfilled his wish to release the movie on its originally scheduled date, October 31, despite his passing on September 19.
Theatres across the state paid emotional tributes, garlanded photos, lit lamps, and even vacant seats were dedicated to the late singer, composer, poet, filmmaker, and actor.&nbsp;
In Guwahati, where fans braved heavy rain, the film was screened 179 times on its opening day, beginning as early as 4:25 am and continuing till 11:50 pm.
Directed by Rajesh Bhuyan, Roi Roi Binale is a musical drama featuring Garg as a visually impaired singer. 
The multifaceted artist wrote, composed, and produced the film along with his wife, Garima Saikia Garg.
According to Rajib Bora, general secretary of the All Assam Cinema Hall Owners Association, the movie has been released in more than 90 single-screen theatres and multiplexes across the state, a record for any Assamese film. 
&ldquo;The response has been overwhelming, and almost all first-week shows are sold out,&rdquo; Bora said.
The film is also being screened in over 70 theatres across major Indian cities, including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kochi. 
In Assam, some old single-screen theatres were refurbished and reopened, while new ones were inaugurated early to accommodate the release. 
Organisations such as the Asom Gana Parishad even booked entire shows in Garg&rsquo;s honour.
Bora, who also owns Gold Cinemas, said the movie is being shown in 12 of their theatres across nine towns. 
&ldquo;We&rsquo;re opening a new theatre in Hojai to screen Roi Roi Binale,&rdquo; he added, urging people to avoid piracy and warning of strict action against violators.
Garg&rsquo;s passing had drawn millions of mourners, and his cremation site is being converted into a memorial. On Friday, audiences were seen paying respects to Garg&rsquo;s photos before entering theatres. 
Many stood to sing Mayabini, one of Garg&rsquo;s popular songs, while several left the halls in tears after the screening.
The film&rsquo;s trailer portrayed the struggles of the singer Garg plays, including a haunting scene of him lying unconscious on a beach, a chilling parallel to the circumstances of his death in Singapore.
Upakul Sarmah, deputy registrar of Bhattadev University, said Garg seemed to have poured his heart into the film. 
&ldquo;He touched on sensitive social themes like the targeting of innocent children in the name of revolution, and gave a message of unity, that Assamese people can survive anything if they stand together,&rdquo; he said.
Industry insiders expect Roi Roi Binale to break box-office records in Assamese cinema. 
The current highest-grossing Assamese film, Bidurbhai (2024), earned ₹15.75 crore, but Bora predicts Garg&rsquo;s film could exceed ₹50 crore.
In honour of Garg, the Assam Cabinet announced that the state&rsquo;s share of tax revenue from the movie will go to the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation, an organisation founded by Garg to support artists during medical crises, as well as flood relief and student aid efforts.
Meanwhile, investigations into Garg&rsquo;s death continue in both Singapore and Assam. 
Seven people , including his manager, cousin, event organiser, two band members, and two security guards, remain in custody for their alleged involvement in the case.
