Aditya Dhar&rsquo;s espionage thriller Dhurandhar continues its historic box office dominance, even as it enters 2026 with a revised theatrical version. The Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna-starrer, released on December 5, 2025, has crossed a massive ₹1,100 crore globally, outperforming recent blockbusters such as Pathaan, Jawan and Chhaava.
Despite its extraordinary commercial success, the film has sparked debate due to its strong political undertones. While audiences largely embraced the high-octane spy drama, a section of viewers criticised it as propaganda. Amid this backdrop, the makers have introduced changes to the film ahead of the New Year.
According to industry reports, cinema halls across India received instructions on December 31, 2025, to replace the film&rsquo;s Digital Cinema Package. The revised version reportedly includes muted words and a modified dialogue, following directions from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. One specific term has been removed from the film&rsquo;s dialogue in the updated cut.
The new version of Dhurandhar began screening in theatres from January 1, 2026.
The controversy has not affected the film&rsquo;s earnings. By its 27th day, Dhurandhar had collected over ₹720 crore in India alone, placing Ranveer Singh among a select group of actors to deliver multiple all-time blockbusters. His portrayal of an Indian intelligence officer infiltrating a terror network in Pakistan has struck a strong chord with domestic audiences. However, the film has faced international hurdles, including a complete ban across Gulf countries.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in key roles. Supporting performances by Naveen Kaushik, Saumya Tandon, Naseem Mughal, Danish Pandor and Gaurav Gera have also been widely noted.
With its franchise just getting started, the makers have already announced that the sequel to Dhurandhar is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026.
