The Delhi High Court on Thursday upheld Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan&rsquo;s personality and publicity rights, restraining individuals and entities from exploiting her name, image, or voice without consent.
Justice Tejas Karia passed the order in response to Bachchan&rsquo;s plea, where she highlighted instances of her likeness and voice being misused for commercial gain, including videos generated through artificial intelligence and morphed content on pornographic platforms.
The court directed that infringing URLs must be taken down within 72 hours, stressing that misuse of her persona could mislead the public, create false endorsements, and harm her dignity. The bench underlined that such unauthorised exploitation impacts both the commercial and privacy rights of celebrities, ultimately undermining their right to live with dignity.
This ruling follows similar orders protecting the personality rights of other actors. Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and most recently, Abhishek Bachchan, were granted legal safeguards to prevent misuse of their identity, catchphrases, or images for profit.
The case is scheduled for its next hearing on January 15.
