The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has concluded, after a re-examination directed by the Delhi High Court, that the upcoming film Dhurandhar bears no resemblance to the life or experiences of Ashoka Chakra awardee Late Major Mohit Sharma.
The review followed the High Court&rsquo;s order dated December 1, 2025, asking the Board to assess objections raised by Major Sharma&rsquo;s parents, who sought to restrain the film&rsquo;s release. 
In its latest communication, the CBFC stated that it found &ldquo;no link&rdquo; between the film and the officer, rejecting claims that the storyline mirrors his life or service.
CBFC&rsquo;s Assessment
During the fresh review, officials evaluated the specific question framed by the High Court, whether the film directly or indirectly depicts, resembles, or derives from Major Sharma&rsquo;s life. 
The Board reiterated that Dhurandhar is &ldquo;a work of fiction&rdquo; with &ldquo;no factual or biographical connection&rdquo; to the officer. 
It also noted that the film carries a clear disclaimer that all characters and events are fictional and not based on real individuals.
The internal note records that the Examining Committee had previously viewed the film on November 28, 2025, and found it suitable for adult certification with certain excisions or modifications. 
Upon reconsideration, officials found no basis to alter their earlier conclusion.
No Need for Army Consultation
During earlier court proceedings, counsel for the CBFC informed the bench that certification was underway and objections were being reviewed. 
The Court had remarked that the Board could, if necessary, consult the Indian Army. 
However, the CBFC has now stated that such a reference is unnecessary, as the film does not depict any real Army officer or actual operation.
Justice Sachin Datta questioned how the claim of resemblance had been established, pointing out that only the trailer was available and no evidence of &ldquo;uncanny similarity&rdquo; had been presented. 
The Court disposed of the petition after directing the CBFC to consider the objections before completing certification.
Petitioners&rsquo; Arguments and Filmmakers&rsquo; Stand
Major Sharma&rsquo;s parents argued that the film was being promoted as &ldquo;inspired by true events&rdquo; and alleged that the narrative echoed aspects of the officer&rsquo;s persona and Special Forces missions. 
They raised concerns regarding dignity, posthumous privacy, and personality rights.
The filmmakers, represented by Senior Advocate Saurabh Kirpal, maintained that the petition was premature and asserted that the film is entirely fictional.
About the Film
With the CBFC&rsquo;s review complete and objections dismissed, certification is expected to proceed as per guidelines. 
Dhurandhar is a Hindi-language spy-action thriller directed by Aditya Dhar and stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal.
