Frustrated by this defiance, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro resorted to venomous rhetoric. He described India as a &ldquo;washing machine for Russia&rdquo; and went further, alleging that Brahmins were profiteering at the expense of ordinary Indians.Such statements are not merely irresponsible; they are deliberate attempts to sow division within Indian society.
The pressing question is this: has America abandoned serious diplomacy and descended instead into cheap accusations and caste-based provocations? Navarro&rsquo;s remarks reveal not just hostility towards India but also the desperation and bewilderment of the American establishment.
Today, India stands as a robust economy with an independent foreign policy. Its energy trade with Russia is vital for national interests. The United States would prefer India to fall in line with Western diktats, but India has prioritised its sovereign interests and this is precisely what Washington cannot stomach.
Navarro&rsquo;s language is unbecoming of an economist. Once a university professor, he has in the past faced punishment for contemptuous conduct in political contexts. His latest comments are merely a continuation of a pattern: the politics of insult and provocation, dressed up as strategy.
In India, cases of sedition are often filed against citizens for far lesser remarks. Should a senior American adviser like Peter Navarro not be held legally accountable for such an egregious statement against India? The matter warrants a firm response, both from the Indian government and civil society.
