Indian equity markets made a sharp comeback on Monday, powered by aggressive buying in top banking and auto counters. The benchmark Sensex jumped 442.61 points to end at 82,200.34, while the Nifty50 closed 122.30 points higher at 25,090.70.
This recovery came after several sessions of lackluster trade, with market participants chasing value in heavyweight stocks like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Tata Motors following encouraging earnings signals.
Analysts credited the bounce to robust quarterly results from financial majors, which helped shift sentiment back into positive territory. &ldquo;Investors are clearly positioning around earnings expectations, especially in banking and auto, while keeping a close eye on global macro triggers,&rdquo; said a senior market strategist.
Among sectoral performers, Bank Nifty soared over 430 points (1.62%), while Nifty Auto added 0.67%. IT and FMCG stocks, however, faced selling pressure, dragging down their respective indices.

In stock-specific action, Zomato, Adani Ports, BEL, Power Grid, Bajaj Finserv, and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra ended firmly in the green. On the flip side, Reliance Industries, TCS, HCL Tech, and ITC closed lower.
Despite Monday&rsquo;s rally, caution remains. Ongoing trade talks between India and the US, and global interest rate cues, continue to shape investor mood. A major event on the radar is Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell&rsquo;s upcoming address, expected to impact global currency and bond markets.
Meanwhile, the rupee weakened slightly to 86.25 against the US dollar, down 0.18%, amid global dollar strength. Investors are also closely tracking upcoming domestic data, including Manufacturing and Services PMI figures, to gauge the near-term outlook.
