Indian Army Reports Continued Cross-Border Fire Along Line of Control
The Indian Army issued a statement confirming that Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked hostilities for the fourth consecutive night along the Line of Control (LoC). According to military officials, Pakistani Army posts opened small arms fire across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts during the night of 27-28 April 2025.
"Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively to the provocation," the statement noted.
This incident follows similar exchanges over the past three days. On the night of 26-27 April, Pakistani Army posts had initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in the Tutmari Gali and Rampur Sectors, with Indian forces responding "effectively with appropriate small arms fire."
The escalating border tensions come in the wake of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April that claimed 26 lives. Security agencies have intensified their search operations for those responsible for the attack.
In related developments, security personnel have demolished the homes of three more suspected terrorists in South Kashmir&mdash;Adnan Shafi Dar in Shopian's Zainapora area, Amir Nazir in Pulwama's Daramdora area, and Jameel Ahmad in Bandipora's Naz Colony. This brings the total number of demolitions to nine since the Pahalgam attack.
The situation has prompted diplomatic repercussions, with New Delhi announcing several retaliatory measures, including visa cancellations and suspension of the 1960s Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan has responded by putting the 1972 Shimla Agreement in abeyance and closing its airspace to Indian carriers.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed support for decisive action against terrorism but cautioned against "misplaced action that alienates people who have voiced their concerns over innocent killings."
