In a major step towards self-reliance in defence technology, India on Friday successfully conducted flight trials of the UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 at the National Open Area Range (NOAR) in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the achievement on the social media platform X, congratulating DRDO, defence industry partners, MSMEs, and startups for the development and trial success.
While exact specifications remain classified, ULPGM-V3 is believed to feature advanced dual-thrust propulsion and imaging infrared (IIR) seekers, evolving from earlier V2 versions developed by DRDO&rsquo;s Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL).
The successful test underscores India&rsquo;s growing expertise in unmanned precision strike capabilities, offering enhanced flexibility in modern combat scenarios. ULPGM systems are lightweight, high-precision munitions compatible with various drone platforms.
NOAR in Kurnool has become a hub for advanced defence trials, including laser-based Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs) capable of neutralising swarm drones and fixed-wing UAVs.
This trial strengthens India's Atmanirbhar Bharat mission in critical defence tech, showcasing fruitful collaboration between DRDO, startups, and private industry.
