The Central government on Thursday confirmed that Indian Armed Forces carried out targeted strikes on Pakistani Air Defence Radars and systems in retaliation to attempted cross-border attacks by Pakistan on military installations in northern and western India.
Pakistan initiated strikes late on the night of May 7 and into the early hours of May 8, attempting to hit several Indian military locations using drones and missiles.&nbsp;
The targeted sites included Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.&nbsp;
The Indian government reported that these threats were intercepted and neutralised by India&rsquo;s Integrated Counter Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Grid and Air Defence mechanisms.
Responding to these provocations, Indian forces struck Pakistani air defence systems, with confirmed hits on installations at multiple sites, including Lahore. According to the government, "Indian response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan."
Debris from the intercepted drones and missiles is currently being recovered from various locations across Indian territory. The government stated this material will strengthen India&rsquo;s case against Pakistan, reinforcing allegations that the Pakistani state, or its deep state elements, continue to provide financial and military support for cross-border terrorism against India.
These Pakistani actions followed Indian precision strikes conducted a day earlier under the codename &lsquo;Operation Sindoor&rsquo;. The operation, which began at 1:05 am on Wednesday and lasted 25 minutes, involved a coordinated barrage of 24 munitions, including HAMMER smart bombs and SCALP missiles.&nbsp;
The strikes targeted and destroyed terrorist headquarters and training facilities across four sites in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In a joint press conference held Wednesday afternoon, the Indian Army and Air Force stated the targets were identified based on credible intelligence.&nbsp;
The operation was described as "focused, measured, and non-escalatory," with officials noting that no Pakistani military establishments had been targeted during the strikes.
Following these developments, the Indian government issued a clear warning to Pakistan. Any further attempts to strike Indian military assets, it said, would provoke additional countermeasures. At an all-party meeting on Thursday morning, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated this stance and said Operation Sindoor "is ongoing" in view of continued hostile activity by Pakistan.
Separately, the government reported that Pakistan had escalated unprovoked shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) using mortars and heavy artillery.&nbsp;
Affected areas included Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. This bombardment led to the deaths of 16 civilians, among them three women and five children.
"In this case too, India was compelled to respond to bring mortar and artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt. Indian Armed Forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military," the government stated.
