A 16-year-old girl and her two half-sisters, aged 14 and 12, tragically died after jumping from the ninth floor of their apartment in Bharat City Society, Ghaziabad, in the early hours of Wednesday. Police are investigating a possible link to extreme online gaming addiction, especially to a Korean task-based game the girls were reportedly obsessed with.
According to police, the sisters lived with their father, a forex trader, and their mothers. Shortly after midnight, the three girls went into a room, locked the door, and one by one climbed out through a window, falling to their deaths. Neighbours and guards heard loud noises and alerted authorities, but all three were declared dead on the spot.
Preliminary findings suggest the siblings developed a strong dependence on an online Korean &ldquo;love game,&rdquo; a task-based interactive mobile game, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. They reportedly spent most of their time playing together, neglected school, and were deeply attached to the digital world.
Police have seized the girls&rsquo; mobile phones and told reporters they will analyse the digital evidence to better understand the role of the game in the tragedy. Several handwritten notes, including apologies and drawings, were found at the scene. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
This tragic case has sparked broader discussions about online gaming addiction, youth mental health, and parental supervision, particularly in the age of pervasive mobile gaming.
