The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a search for a Delhi-based man, P. Rama Rao, who allegedly posed as an official from the Prime Minister&rsquo;s Office (PMO) to secure privileges such as temple access, accommodation, and a university admission.
According to officials, Rao falsely identified himself as a Deputy Secretary or Joint Secretary in the PMO while contacting various institutions &mdash; including the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) and Symbiosis International University &mdash; to obtain favours. 
The CBI registered a case based on three formal complaints received from the PMO.
Rao has been charged under Sections 318(4), 319(2), 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for cheating, impersonation, and forgery, along with Section 66-D of the Information Technology Act, which deals with online impersonation and fraud.
The PMO first alerted the CBI in July, after Rao sent a forged letter on fake PMO letterhead to the TTD, requesting arrangements for Suprabhatam Darshan on 10 May, along with three AC double rooms for himself and nine family members for three nights in Tirumala.
While the case was under review, a second incident came to light in which Rao allegedly called the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Symbiosis International University, again posing as a Joint Secretary from the PMO, to seek admission-related assistance.
The third complaint, dated 29 August, stated that Rao had contacted a tehsildar in Mysuru, Karnataka, using another name but maintaining the same fake PMO rank and phone number, to obtain land-related documents.
A senior PMO official, in the final letter to the CBI, described it as &ldquo;a case of continued impersonation and misuse of the PMO&rsquo;s name,&rdquo; urging the agency to expedite its investigation and share progress updates.
The CBI has since initiated a probe to trace Rao&rsquo;s whereabouts, as the impostor remains at large.
