A West Bengal resident lodged in Kolkata&rsquo;s Presidency Jail is being questioned by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the recent car blast near Delhi&rsquo;s Red Fort Metro Station. The accused, Sabir Ahmed, hails from Bara Naldaha in Nadia district and is currently jailed under the Anti-Narcotics Act.
Investigators from state and central agencies have questioned him multiple times inside the prison. His brother, Faisal Ahmed, was also detained for interrogation by the Special Task Force over suspected links to a wider terror network.
The probe intensified after the explosion on November 10 killed at least 12 people and left several injured. Officials discovered that the driver of the Hyundai i20 involved in the blast had received about Rs 20 lakh through illegal financial channels. DNA analysis confirmed Dr Umar Mohammad was behind the wheel when the blast occurred.
Hours before the attack, officers in Faridabad recovered nearly 2,900 kg of explosive materials including ammonium nitrate, raising further suspicion of a coordinated terror module. Investigators are now examining the financial trails of Dr Umar, Dr Muzammil and a woman doctor, Dr Shaheen, all suspected to be part of the network.
Preliminary findings suggest the doctors may have received the funds from a handler linked to a banned terror outfit using hawala routes. A dispute reportedly arose between Umar and Shaheen over the money distribution. Several hawala operators have been detained for questioning.
Around Rs 3 lakh is believed to have been spent on procuring fertilisers, while large quantities of ammonium nitrate were seized from multiple Faridabad locations connected to the group.
Authorities describe the network as a &ldquo;white-collar terror module&rdquo; operated by trained medical professionals with possible Jammu and Kashmir linkages. Investigation teams have collected more than 40 samples from the blast site as part of ongoing inquiries.
