In a significant move against transnational cybercrime, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Prince Jashvantlal Anand, a key figure in a global cyber extortion syndicate during coordinated raids in Mumbai and Ahmedabad under Operation Chakra-V.
Anand is accused of masterminding an elaborate scheme that targeted foreign nationals, particularly in the United States and Canada, by impersonating officials from law enforcement and government agencies. Victims were threatened with fabricated legal consequences and coerced into paying money through digital platforms.
During the raids, officials uncovered a sophisticated setup including:

And cryptocurrency wallets holding over $45,000 in virtual assets.

The CBI also seized luxury vehicles, high-end accessories, and documents suggesting frequent international travel and unaccounted wealth.
According to the agency, Anand ran a syndicate known as the &lsquo;Royal Tiger Gang&rsquo;, which had earlier been flagged by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as a major threat. The gang is believed to have orchestrated large-scale robocalls and phishing attempts impersonating government bodies, banks, and utilities.
The accused has been remanded to CBI custody for four days, and investigations are ongoing to trace other members and assets linked to the racket.
In a statement, the CBI reaffirmed its commitment to combating cyber-enabled financial fraud and said it is working closely with international enforcement agencies to dismantle such cross-border crime networks.
This bust highlights the growing threat of digital extortion and the challenges posed by cryptocurrency laundering and cross-jurisdictional loopholes in cybercrime.
