Newly appointed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national working president Nitin Nabin on Monday said his foremost priority would be to strengthen the party&rsquo;s organisational structure and nurture new leadership from the grassroots.
Speaking to reporters in Patna after paying floral tributes to his late father, veteran BJP leader Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha, Nabin said his aim was to make the party sarvavyapi (omnipresent) and sarvasparshi (all-encompassing). He also visited Mahavir Mandir, saying the darshan filled him with renewed energy. &ldquo;It is with my father&rsquo;s blessings that I have reached where I am today after 20 years in public life. I will begin this new journey with his blessings,&rdquo; he said.
A five-time legislator, Nabin is currently the road construction minister in Bihar&rsquo;s Nitish Kumar-led cabinet. He has earlier handled key portfolios including urban development, housing and law. Representing the Bankipur assembly constituency, he has also served as national general secretary of the BJP&rsquo;s youth wing, the Yuva Morcha, and as president of its Bihar unit.
After leaving for Delhi following his appointment, Nabin thanked the party leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility. &ldquo;The BJP not only promotes youth but also guides and shapes them to achieve larger goals. It is the only party where grassroots workers are given space to grow,&rdquo; he said.
At 45, Nabin becomes the youngest working president in the BJP&rsquo;s history. He is expected to steer the organisation as it prepares for crucial assembly elections next year in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, unless a full-time party president is appointed before the polls.
Senior party leaders said Nabin was handpicked by the parliamentary board due to his strong organisational credentials and grassroots connect. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a social media post on Sunday, described him as a young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience and an impressive record as an MLA and minister.
Nabin&rsquo;s elevation is also seen as strengthening Bihar and eastern India&rsquo;s representation in the BJP&rsquo;s top leadership, a region considered critical for both electoral calculations and long-term expansion. Party leaders said three key factors worked in his favour: his deep understanding of organisational work at the ground level, his alignment with the leadership&rsquo;s style of functioning, and his ability to deliver on challenging political assignments.
He has previously served as the BJP&rsquo;s election in-charge for Sikkim in 2019 and was in charge of Chhattisgarh during the 2023 state elections, when the party wrested power from the Congress. He also played a role in the BJP&rsquo;s campaign in Delhi.
Party leaders said his appointment could help the BJP reconnect with the Kayastha community, which has traditionally supported the party but had expressed dissatisfaction over the denial of tickets to Kayastha candidates in areas dominated by the community.
Union home minister Amit Shah&rsquo;s recent visit to Nabin&rsquo;s Patna residence during his Bihar tour was widely viewed within party circles as recognition of his organisational work. Nabin has also been credited with mobilising the Jeevika didi network and playing a key role in NDA coordination meetings that highlighted alliance unity on the ground.
