The sisters, aged 16, 14, and 11, died after falling from the ninth-floor window of their residential building around 2 am on Wednesday. Early findings suggest their lives had become increasingly confined to an online world, shaped by intense interest in Korean entertainment and compounded by financial strain and complex family relationships.
Investigators found that the girls were heavily immersed in Korean pop culture, particularly K-dramas and K-pop. Within their private world, they reportedly adopted the names Aliza, Cindy, and Maria. An eight-page note indicated they felt misunderstood by family members, whom they believed did not share or appreciate their fascination with East Asian cultures.
The diary suggested the sisters had internalised this alternate identity and expressed frustration over being unable to travel abroad, particularly to countries they admired.
Police learned that the girls had not attended school since around 2020. The eldest had studied up to Class 7, the middle sister till Class 5, and the youngest till Class 3. Their interaction with people outside the home was minimal, and they were not known to have friends in the neighbourhood.
Investigators are examining whether recent events at home intensified emotional strain. Days before the incident, their father reportedly sold the phone the sisters used for watching shows, possibly due to financial difficulties. He had also asked them to delete a social media account that had amassed roughly 2,000 followers. Authorities believe the move may have deeply upset the girls, whose online space had become central to their daily lives.
Officials are also reviewing the family structure, describing the household as complicated. All members lived together in a three-bedroom apartment, and certain aspects of the father&rsquo;s marital history are still being verified as part of the ongoing probe.
