In a landmark Vijayadashami address marking the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), chief Mohan Bhagwat struck a powerful note on self-reliance, national unity, and global challenges. Speaking at Nagpur&rsquo;s Reshimbagh ground, Bhagwat warned against India&rsquo;s growing dependence on international markets, citing US tariff policies as a reminder to embrace Atmanirbhar Bharat.
"Today America is seen as a role model, but we must live with our own strength, not on borrowed systems," Bhagwat declared, urging India to pursue self-sufficiency while maintaining balanced ties with the world.
The RSS chief also touched on geopolitics, expressing concern over regime changes in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, which he said were influenced by forces seeking to destabilise India. Paying tribute to Guru Teg Bahadur on his 350th martyrdom anniversary, he hailed his sacrifice as a shield for Hindu society. Bhagwat further praised the Indian Army&rsquo;s response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a testament to national unity and bravery.
The celebrations also included the traditional Shastra Puja, where replicas of Pinaka rockets and drones were displayed, symbolising India&rsquo;s strength.
Former President Ram Nath Kovind, the event&rsquo;s chief guest, urged youth to join politics, lamenting that &ldquo;good people are shying away from it.&rdquo; He credited RSS founder K.B. Hedgewar and B.R. Ambedkar for shaping his values of unity and social harmony.
The centenary event drew tributes from top leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called RSS &ldquo;a re-establishment of national consciousness,&rdquo; while Home Minister Amit Shah praised its journey from a handful of volunteers in 1925 to &ldquo;the world&rsquo;s largest social organisation.&rdquo; Union Minister Piyush Goyal lauded its spirit of sacrifice and service, terming it a living example of civic responsibility and harmony.
