The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the Indian Navy&rsquo;s GSAT 7R (CMS-03) communication satellite on Sunday evening. The launch is scheduled for 5:26 PM from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, and will be streamed live on ISRO&rsquo;s official YouTube channel.
Weighing around 4,400 kg, GSAT 7R is India&rsquo;s heaviest communication satellite yet. Designed and developed indigenously, it aims to enhance the Navy&rsquo;s communication network and maritime domain awareness with advanced multi-band coverage across the Indian Ocean and the national landmass.
The satellite will be carried by ISRO&rsquo;s LVM3-M5 launch vehicle, the same rocket that successfully placed Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar South Pole. Standing 43.5 meters tall with a total lift-off mass of 642 tonnes, the LVM3 uses a three-stage propulsion system to reach geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO).
ISRO confirmed that the LVM3 has been on the launch pad since October 26 for pre-launch checks. The mission includes eight key sequences, with satellite separation expected at an altitude of approximately 179 km and a velocity of roughly 10 km/s.
The GSAT 7R mission marks another milestone in India&rsquo;s growing indigenous space capability and strategic defence communication network.
