The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday commenced a three-day review of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Tamil Nadu, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and State Government Secretary Archana Patnaik announced.
The SIR, which began on November 4, requires citizens to submit applications for inclusion, deletion, or correction in the voter list by December 4. 
The revision is being conducted simultaneously across nine states and three Union Territories. 
Several political parties in Tamil Nadu, including the DMK, have approached the Supreme Court challenging the ECI&rsquo;s decision.
In a statement, CEO Archana Patnaik said senior ECI officials will assess the progress of the 2025 Special Intensive Revision and oversee district-level operations. 
ECI Deputy Director P. Pavan and Devansh Tiwari from the Commission&rsquo;s Media Division will review media coordination efforts and voter awareness initiatives during their visit to Chennai from November 24 to 26. 
The officials are also scheduled to inspect field-level survey activities.
ECI Director Krishnakumar Tiwari will visit Coimbatore and Tiruppur to evaluate the work of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), focusing on the distribution of tally sheets, verification of entries, and digital updation of voter data, which form key components of the revision exercise.
Meanwhile, ECI Secretary Madhusudan Gupta will review special revision activities in Chennai and Chengalpattu districts. 
His assessment will include voter list corrections, door-to-door verification, and the performance of field teams.
The CEO said the SIR aims to ensure accuracy and completeness of the 2025 electoral rolls ahead of major elections next year. 
She added that officials will address on-ground challenges, reinforce adherence to guidelines, and strengthen mechanisms to improve public participation. 
The Commission is expected to issue additional guidelines following the statewide review, even as the Supreme Court continues to hear petitions challenging the timing and scope of the revision.
