Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday lauded Union Home Minister Amit Shah for introducing a landmark bill in Parliament aimed at removing tainted ministers. Speaking at the All India Speakers&rsquo; Conference 2025 in the Delhi Assembly, she described the move as a historic step for Indian democracy.
&ldquo;Vithalbhai Patel ji had ignited the flame of parliamentary traditions and democratic decorum even in a subservient India. Today, under the guidance of HM Amit Shah, this opportunity to make that flame brighter is becoming a historic legacy for all of us,&rdquo; CM Gupta said.
The two-day conference, commemorating 100 years of Vitthalbhai Patel as the first elected Indian Speaker, is attended by Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen from Legislative Assemblies and Councils across the country.
CM Gupta emphasized the moral victory of Vitthalbhai Patel&rsquo;s election as the first Indian Speaker of the pre-Independence Central Legislative Assembly and said, &ldquo;This conclave will prove to be a milestone in the continuous journey of Parliament and legislative bodies, progressing toward making India's democracy even stronger.&rdquo;
She praised HM Amit Shah for elevating democratic values, code of conduct, impartiality, and legislative efficiency. &ldquo;The Home Minister is the voice of democracy in the Lok Sabha. Every word he speaks reflects the Constitution and reason,&rdquo; she said, adding that his recent decisions, including the bill to sack tainted ministers and the abrogation of Article 370, reinforce public faith in governance.
Gupta concluded by highlighting the participation of 29 Chairmen and 17 Deputy Chairmen from across India, representing states including Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Mizoram, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, and Punjab.
