Bangladesh&rsquo;s Awami League on Wednesday sharply criticised the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, alleging that the country has turned into a &ldquo;dumping ground of dead bodies&rdquo; amid a surge in violence and rising public distress.
Expressing deep concern, the party said soaring prices of essential goods and widespread insecurity have left citizens feeling that &ldquo;human life in the country seems to hold no value at all.&rdquo;
In a strongly worded statement, the Awami League said &ldquo;Today, every corner of besieged Bangladesh echoes with the cries of those who have lost their loved ones&hellip; dead bodies are scattered everywhere.&rdquo;
The party alleged that its leaders and activists face &ldquo;unspeakable torture and persecution&rdquo; for opposing what it called conspiracies by Yunus and his supporters to destabilise the nation. 
&ldquo;They are even being killed indiscriminately,&rdquo; the statement added.
The party claimed that the killings were part of a &ldquo;pre-planned blueprint.&rdquo; 
It cited two recent incidents: the alleged killing of Gaibandha District Awami League leader Tariq Rifat inside prison, and the murder of Al-Amin, General Secretary of the Chhatra League&rsquo;s Comilla district unit, in Dhaka&rsquo;s Bashundhara residential area.
The Awami League said its members continue to face targeted attacks, while ordinary citizens remain without security in what it described as an increasingly &ldquo;unsafe&rdquo; Bangladesh.
Condemning the violence, the party said, &ldquo;We strongly condemn and protest this series of killings carried out by the bloodthirsty, demonic group of Yunus&hellip; all those involved in these killings will be brought to justice and given strict punishment.&rdquo;
On Tuesday, the Awami League announced nationwide protests until November 30, calling for the resignation of Yunus and rejecting the verdict of what it labelled the country&rsquo;s &ldquo;illegal&rdquo; International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in cases involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
