Indian small-cap and midcap stocks extended losses for a third consecutive week as US President Donald Trump&rsquo;s threat of 50% tariffs on Indian goods rattled sentiment. The BSE smallcap index slid nearly 2% this week, while the largecap and midcap indices fell around 1% each.
The Nifty smallcap 100 has dropped 8.31% in the past month to 17,478, and the Nifty midcap 100 fell 5.62% to 57,094. Companies like PG Electroplast, Kitex Garments, Titagarh, Ramco Cement, Unichem Laboratories, Morepen Laboratories, and Advait Energy Transitions saw steep declines of 6&ndash;24%.
Foreign institutional investors net sold equities worth ₹10,652 crore, their sixth straight week of selling, while domestic institutional investors purchased ₹33,608.66 crore worth of shares.
Sector-wise, Nifty Pharma, Realty, FMCG, and Healthcare fell by about 2%, while PSU banks, media, and metals gained up to 1.5%.
Analysts warn that broader market indices remain vulnerable given their high sensitivity to FII outflows. Ajit Mishra of Religare Broking said Nifty faces immediate support at 24,200 and resistance at 24,600&ndash;24,800, with a stronger barrier at 25,200. Without easing trade tensions and reversing FII flows, any rebound is expected to be short-lived.
