Domestic equity markets surged on Wednesday, with the Sensex rebounding sharply after early weakness and closing above the 85,000 mark. Heavy buying in IT heavyweights and select large-cap stocks helped the benchmark indices recover more than 700 points from the day&rsquo;s low.
The Sensex ended at 85,186.47, rising 513.45 points or 0.61%, after opening in the red at 84,643.78. The Nifty also posted strong gains, closing at 26,052.65, up 142.60 points or 0.55%.
Market analysts noted that Nifty regained strength after finding support near the 25,850 zone, eventually reclaiming the crucial 26,000 psychological level.
Top performers on the Sensex included HCL Tech, Infosys, TCS, Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharma, Titan, Tech Mahindra, ICICI Bank, SBI, BEL, Tata Steel, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, and L&amp;T. Meanwhile, Tata Motors PV, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints, and ITC ended in the red.
The rally was supported by renewed optimism around an India&ndash;US trade agreement, following encouraging remarks from the Commerce Ministry.
Sectorally, the market witnessed broad strength. Nifty IT jumped 2.97% (1,069 points), while Nifty Auto, Nifty Bank, and Nifty Financial Services also ended higher. However, small-cap stocks came under pressure, leading to a mixed performance in the broader market. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.21%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 slipped 0.43%.
The rebound reflects renewed confidence among investors as value buying returned to large-cap counters, particularly in the technology sector.
