Indian benchmark indices started the week on a positive note on Monday, with PSU bank stocks driving the gains. The BSE Sensex rose 122 points (0.15%) to 79,980, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 42 points (0.17%) to 24,405. The Nifty Bank climbed 0.34% to 55,194.
Broader market indices also witnessed buying interest. BSE SmallCap gained 0.16% and MidCap rose 0.19%. Last week, both Sensex and Nifty had slipped nearly 1%.
Nifty PSU Bank surged 1.42%, outperforming other sectors, while Nifty IT dipped 0.46%. Among the top Nifty gainers were Grasim, SBI, Adani Enterprises, and Trent. Titan Company led the losers with a 0.97% fall, followed by Bajaj Finserv, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, and Apollo Hospitals.
Analysts see Nifty support at 24,300 and 24,200, with resistance at 24,500. Markets are closely watching the US-India trade deal, quarterly earnings, inflation data, and geopolitical developments, particularly the Trump-Putin talks in Alaska, which could influence the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In global cues, US markets ended higher with strong tech gains, while Asian stocks traded positively ahead of the US&ndash;China tariff truce deadline. FIIs turned net buyers after 14 sessions, purchasing ₹1,932 crore worth of equities on Friday, while DIIs bought ₹7,723 crore.
