The Delhi High Court has directed the Union of India to ensure legal assistance for Bollywood actor Celina Jaitly&rsquo;s brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for over a year.
In her petition, Celina informed the court that she has been unable to communicate with her brother since his alleged detention on September 6, 2024.&nbsp;
The court, while hearing her plea, instructed the government to make certain that he receives proper legal representation and that his family is regularly updated about his condition and legal status.
Justice Sachin Datta, who presided over the matter, issued a notice to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and directed that a nodal officer be appointed to coordinate communication between Jaitly&rsquo;s family and the concerned UAE authorities. 
Celina, who appeared in person before the court on November 3, stated that her family has had very limited consular contact since his detention.
According to the petition, Major Jaitly, who has lived in the UAE since 2016 while working with a trading and risk-management firm, was taken into custody under unclear circumstances. 
Celina&rsquo;s counsel argued that his extended detention without consistent legal access or communication with family members violates basic human rights and international diplomatic protocols.
The court has sought a detailed status report from the government before the next hearing on December 4, 2025. 
Reporting on the order, Bar and Bench quoted the court as saying, &ldquo;An attempt shall be made to ensure contact between the petitioner and her brother and his wife. Let a status report be filed. Depute a nodal officer and apprise the family regarding the detained person&rsquo;s status and ongoing legal proceedings in the UAE. The nodal officer shall provide regular updates to the family.&rdquo;
On Bhai Dooj this year, Celina shared an emotional message for her brother on social media, writing, &ldquo;Your sister stands with you, no matter what&nbsp; no one can ever come between us. I wish I had hugged you tighter, longer, the last time I saw you, or stolen a few more of your T-shirts to wear as nighties like I did when we were kids. Maybe made you Maggi just the way you liked it.&rdquo;
She concluded her heartfelt post with optimism, saying, &ldquo;The good news is, I&rsquo;ll see you soon again. We&rsquo;ll add so many more stories to our sharing and so many more memories to our caring.&rdquo;
