Indian-Origin Anita Anand has been named as Canada&rsquo;s new Foreign Minister in the newly form cabinet by PM Mark Carney, on Tuesday. Anand has succeeded Mlanie Joly, who will now look after Industry Ministry. Anand swear to be truthful to her duty, by putting her one hand on holy Bhagvad Gita.

Anita Anand belongs to Tamil-Punjabi origins. She was born on May 20 in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Her father belonged to Tamil family and her mother was Punjabi. The couple were doctor by profession who had migrated to Canada in early 1960s. Anand earned her degrees from Dalhousie University, University of Toronto and Oxford University. Before entering into politics, Ananda taught law in the University of Yale. She had mastery in finance regulation and corporate governance.&nbsp;
Anand sets her foot in politics in 2019. For the past few years she had handled 4 portfolios and is the Member of Parliament for Oakville, Ontario. In the crucial times of COVID 19 , Anand served as the minister of public services and procurement. She was in charge of getting vaccines and health supplied for Canada. Further she also served as the defence minister of Canada. Anand, as defence minister took progressive steps in providing aid to Ukraine amid the war with Russia. She also took initiative to fight against sexual misconduct and bring reforms in Canada&rsquo;s armed force. Anand faced setback when she was transferred to Treasury Board in 2023. yet again, she managed high profile portfolio of minister of transport and internal trade in September 2024.

The Cabinet includes economic profiles such as Finance, US-Canada Relationship, Internal trade and Foreign affairs. The new cabinet includes 28 minister and 10 state secretaries, Frisco Philippe Champagne continued in the position of finance minister, while Dominic Le Blanc holds the position of Canada US relation.&nbsp;
