The Kremlin confirmed that while Russia and Ukraine remain in contact, no date has been set for the next round of peace talks. Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that discussions continue at the level of negotiating groups, but productive talks require thorough preparation.
&ldquo;We cannot yet name the exact dates of a new round of negotiations in Istanbul,&rdquo; Peskov told reporters. He emphasised that dialogue must continue to ensure meaningful outcomes, adding that any talks at higher levels must be well-prepared.
On European involvement in Ukraine, Peskov stressed Russia&rsquo;s opposition to the idea of deploying European troops, saying, &ldquo;We have a negative attitude.&rdquo; He added that NATO&rsquo;s expansion into Ukraine was one of the root causes of the ongoing conflict.
Earlier, Russian aide Yury Ushakov revealed that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump recently discussed supporting direct Moscow-Kyiv negotiations. Trump even announced plans for a trilateral meeting involving himself, Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The leaders spoke on August 15 in Alaska, with top diplomats including Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also present. Trump later described the step as an &ldquo;early move&rdquo; toward ending a war that has lasted nearly four years.
