Israeli warplanes launched a fresh wave of airstrikes on Yemen&rsquo;s capital, Sanaa, late Sunday night, leaving at least two people dead and 35 others wounded, according to Houthi-run health officials.
The strikes hit multiple locations across the city, including the Yemeni Petroleum Company&rsquo;s gas station, where the majority of casualties were reported. Emergency workers warned that the death toll could rise as more victims were rushed to hospitals.
Civil defense teams battled fires that erupted in the southern and western districts following the bombings. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz later confirmed the operation, stating that the strikes targeted &ldquo;sites used for military activity.&rdquo; Among the locations reportedly hit were the presidential palace, Asar and Hizaz power plants, and a fuel storage facility.
Israeli media outlet Kan TV reported that 14 warplanes carried out the operation, dropping nearly 40 bombs over strategic areas in Sanaa.
The Houthi movement condemned the attacks, accusing Israel of &ldquo;brutal aggression against civilian facilities&rdquo; and holding both Israel and the United States accountable for what it described as a &ldquo;heinous crime.&rdquo;
The escalation came just two days after Houthi forces fired a hypersonic ballistic missile toward Tel Aviv, which scattered shrapnel and damaged several houses. Although no fatalities were reported in that attack, it heightened tensions in the region.
Houthis, who control northern Yemen including Sanaa and Hodeidah port, have repeatedly launched strikes on Israel since November 2023, citing their support for Palestinians in Gaza. In response, Israel has intensified retaliatory air raids on Houthi-held territory, deepening fears of a broader regional confrontation.
